Haiti, 1929. On the island of Gonâve, a road construction project is causing concern among local inhabitants. The island’s administrator reaches out to a journalist in the hope that he will expose the exploitation of the island’s people. But the arrival of an eccentric journalist doesn’t have the desired effect, and his article will start a chain of events that will change the island’s fate forever.
Inspired by archival photographs and real events, Gonâve combines live action with 3D animation to bring forgotten history back to life. It is a reflection on memory and colonial history, raising the fundamental question of how stories from the distant past can help us face similar problems in the present.
1929年，海地。在戈納夫島上，一項道路工程令當地居民憂心忡忡。島嶼的行政長官找來一名記者，希望他揭露島民所遭受的剝削。然而這位性情古怪的記者到來後，並未帶來預期的效果；他的一篇文章，卻掀起一連串事件，從此改變了這座島嶼的命運。本片靈感取自檔案照片與真實事件，結合實拍與3D動畫，讓被遺忘的歷史重現眼前。這是對記憶與殖民歷史的一次反思，並提出一個根本的問題：遙遠過去的故事，如何幫助我們面對當下相似的困境。
